The Ass And His Leader by Udo Keppler/ https://www.theodorerooseveltcenter.org/ |
The picture above shows the President Cleveland standing on the edge of a cliff on the "high road" labeled "Good Government Road," holding the end of a broken bridle to a donkey that has fallen off the cliff. There is a caption: An Ass, being led along the high road, suddenly started off and bolted to the brink of a deep precipice. When in the act of throwing himself over, his Leader used his best endeavors to pull him back. The Ass, persisting in his effort, the Leader let him go, and remarked sorrowfully: "Well, I've done my best for you; - it's your funeral, not mine!"
Feeling the pity of the donkey I found one more story. There is a happy-ending providing the donkey is persistent, ambitious and hardworking.
One day on the farm a donkey fell into a well. The animal cried loudly for hours, while the farmer tried to find something to do to get him out.
Finally, the farmer decided that the donkey was old and the well was already dry and needed to be covered anyway. He decided that it really wasn't worth pulling the donkey out of the well...It wasn't an easy decision so he invited all his neighbors to come and help him. They each grabbed a shovel and began to throw dirt into the well.
The donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly loud. Then, to everyone's surprise, he quieted down after a few shovelfuls of dirt.
The farmer finally looked down into the well and was amazed at what he saw... with each shovelful of dirt, the donkey was doing something incredible: It was shaking off the dirt and stepping on the top of it.
Very soon everyone saw surprised how the donkey reached the mouth of the well ...
Life is going to throw dirt at you, all kinds of dirt... the trick to getting out of the hole is to shake it off and use it to step up. Each of our problems is a step up. We can get out of the deepest holes if we don't give up...
The moral of the story is: Use the dirt they throw you to get ahead!
There are some rules which can help:
1. Free yourself from hate and distractions
2. Simplify your life
3. Love more and... shake the dirt, because in this life you can be a solution, not the problem!
