The cat and the mouse - the short story about how important it is to learn a foreign language

Tomorrow as it is every year in Europe we are going to celebrate the Day of Foreign Languages. As a teacher I always try to motivate my students and persuade them how important it is to learn a foreign language to have a chance to communicate. Here is a short story which proves that indeeed learning a foreign language can be the matter of death and life.

Well, listen then.

Once upon a time there was a family of mice living in a nest in a field. Once day a cat came hunting and smelt the mice. Stealthily, he approached the nest, step by step, paw by paw.

The mother mouse sensed that the cat coming and they all waited with the breath  held as the cat approached. Just as the cat was about to peer into the nest, the mother mouse barked, "Hu-hu-hu!" The mouse leapt back in fear and darted away. The mother mouse turned to her children. "You see now how useful it is to learn a second language," she told them. And she was right.
