Irish poets and writers - impressions

A wall of poets made of sand / Dublin Castle 2009

Saint Patrick Day is the celebration which I can't miss. Especially that somewhere there in Belfast there is a wonderful man - Pat. Thanks to him Irish language and literature  became closer and more understandable to me.
In the picture above you can see the photo of the sand sculpture of famous Irish writers. I took it during our holidays in Ireland in 2009.   Next to the installation there was also the poster with the famous quotations of them. Let me present here these guys depicted and their words of wisdom:
Oscar Wilde 1854-1900
'A poet can survive everything but a misprint'

James Joyce 1882-1941
'Mistakes are the portraits of discovery'

Samuel Becket 1906-1989
James Joyce was a synthesizer, trying to bring in as much as he could. I'm an analyser, trying to leave out as much as I can'

Jonathan Swift 1667-1745
'Every man desires to live long, but no man wishes to be old'

George Bernard Show 1856-1950
'A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable but more useful than a life spent on doing nothing'

Wiliam Butler Yeats 1865-1939
'There are no strangers here, only friends you haven't met'

This is the photo of the headstone of my favourite Irish poet -
 Wiliam Butler Yeats.
Here is is a wonderful poem of him I came across in the Museum of Yeats in Limerick in 2009.

'The Lover Pleads with His Friend for Old Friends'

Though you are in your shining days,
 Voices among the crowd
And new friends busy with your praise,
 Be not unkind or proud,
But think about old friends the most:
 Time's bitter flood will rise,
Your beauty perish and be lost
For all eyes but these eyes.
